Historic Cornstalk Fence Hotel, New Orleans--a National Register of Historic Places structure. Originally built in 1816 as the home of the first Attorney General of Louisiana, François Xavier-Martin. There was an earlier version of the building ca. 1730 was destroyed in one of the Great Fires of New Orleans. Dr. Joseph Secondo Biamenti bought the house in 1834. Mrs. Biamenti was originally from Iowa and was homesick for the cornfields that dot Iowa's countryside. Dr. Biamenti, a loving husband, built a decorative iron fence depicting corn and installed the fence around their house, which you see today. Harriet Beecher Stowe is believed to have stayed at the house. The King, Elvis Presley, stayed here while filming King Creole in 1958. Paul Newman, the Clintons, Richard Burton & Liz Taylor have also stayed at the Hotel. Oh, and there may be some otherworldly guests, ghosts that is, residing there.

Original Painting, Acrylic on Stretched Canvas, 16 in. x 20 in.
