The Camellia Grill opened its doors on December 19, 1946. The restaurant developed a loyal following with its classic diner fare. The Camellia Grill continued its success until August 29, 2005, the day Hurricane Katrina assaulted the Crescent City. Camellia Grill closed for the historic storm and stayed closed after the storm. The story wasn’t over though.

Loyal patrons of the Camellia Grill whipped up their own storm: they plastered the icon’s front door with letters pleading for it to reopen. Their prayers (and letters) were answered. Finally, after months of being closed, the fabled eatery was purchased and reopened by local restaurateur Hicham Khodr. As soon as the restaurant opened its’ doors to the hungry crowds, it was serving up it’s famous grub like it had never skipped a beat.
