755 Magazine Street - Original Art
Deutsch Kerrigan LLP is located in this stylish multi-story building at 755 Magazine St. located in the heart of the city's Arts-Warehouse District. Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles bought the former La Belle Creole Cigar and Tobacco Company building in 1980 and renovated this former cigar factory with artisanal care. It wouldn't surprise me if you catch a whiff of the woody aroma of tobacco leaf as you walk through.
Although Ybor City, FL has promoted itself as the Cigar Capital in the U.S., New Orleans had 93 cigar manufacturers. The spicy or sweet aromas of the tobacco leaf wafted around the city from the late 1800's through the early 1900's.
New Orleans native Simon Hernsheim founded S. Hernsheim Brothers in 1857 operating under the name La Belle Creole Cigar and Tobacco Company. The Hernsheim brothers built the company into the second-largest tobacco-manufacturing company in the United States and famous worldwide. "La Belle employed over a thousand people in the factory and another one hundred office workers and salesmen. In 1892, the company produced 40 million cigars!"
