In 1905, Paul Doullut, a steamboat captain, constructed a house facing the Mississippi in what is now known as the Ninth Ward Holy Cross neighborhood. In 1913, Capt. Doullut and his son built an identical house in 1913 for his son, who was also a steamboat captain, as was Capt. Paul's wife. The houses were built to look like steamboats, including making the chimneys look like smokestacks. The house survived Katrina, unlike many in the Ninth Ward, because the first floors are entirely ceramic inside and out.
Original Painting, Acrylic on Stretched Canvas, 16 in. x 20 in.
