The Thirsty Hippo Hattiesburg Originals

The Thirsty Hippo, Hattiesburg, MS -  Food, music, drink--there's live music almost every night. The building was built in 1938 and the Praytor's Dry Cleaners opened in 1940 (closed 1963). In 1982 Pal's coin laundry opened in the building. The Thirsty Hippo had been a fixture in downtown Hattiesburg since 2000, when it opened at 211½ Main St. It began as a  pub with a courtyard that was a place for downtown workers and residents to hang out after work. In 2011, the Newtons bought 309 McLeod St. and the Thirsty Hippo opened at that location in 2012.
